OK, are we just a bunch of boring RPI knurds or
what? This is the only tribe I've subscribed to that
has yet to have a message.
Do any of you fellow RPI Alum have a life??
Anyway, I'm a ChemE 1982, also got an MSEE in 1986,
currently working in and enjoying San Francisco,
living paycheck to paycheck ...
And yes, I was in a fraternity, Phi Sigma Kappa, the
old house at the corner of Burdett Ave. and Hoosick St.
I went back in 2002 for my 20th reunion, and got to
see a lot of old friends.
Cheers,
Chris

Yes, we do. That's why we don't post here often. We're too busy doing things.
It's the people that are constantly posting that worry me. They definitely need more hobbies.
I'm class of '96 and was in APO (since fraternities seems to be the thread). Spent many years helping out the campus through the book exchange and Lost and Found.

Re: Boring Knurds???
Fri, June 18, 2004 - 9:24 AMSeems like most people develop more of a life after RPI... that's what it seems with people there who have graduated recently... the school seems to be cracking down on fun, considering the crazy stories I heard from people about the 80s and early 90s.
I am graduating this December, but currently on an internship in LA, and having a great time!

Re: Boring Knurds???
Fri, June 18, 2004 - 9:34 AMIt seems like the Fraternities still figure out how to party and have fun, but RPI and colleges in general seem to making life difficult.
It's hard for us "old-timers" to imagine rush without alcohol. When I was a freshman (1978) the drinking age in NY was still 18, and one of my first memories was buying a 6-pack of Genesse Cream Ale for $0.99.
I would think that the male-female ratio is slightly more favorable in LA vs. RPI.

Re: Boring Knurds???
Fri, June 18, 2004 - 9:43 AMMy freshman year, the drinking age went up to 21 -- but was still 18 in Vermont so we took the obligatory drive to Bennington every once in a while. However, drinking ages never really seemed to matter in Troy.
Still, there was a life outside the frats. Plenty of beer bonging down at the Colonie Apartments. I still have my funnel in my garage. -

Fri, June 18, 2004 - 10:03 AMI was in the frat (Phi Sigma Kappa) next to Colonie Apts. We used to periodically bomb Colonie with all varieties of leftover food, at least during my years.

Re: Boring Knurds???
Fri, June 18, 2004 - 10:34 AMYou guys must be bored at work or something.. because everyone responded pretty quick... well basically RPI and the city have started some lame taskforce "to curb underage drinking" so they've been shutting down fraternity parties and arresting presidents when they come to investigate for "noise complaints, fire hazards, or permit" type thngs.... basically excuses to shut down parties... so there was a moratorium for the last 3-4 weeks of school where the IFC decided to not have any (open) parties to prevent more frats getting into trouble...
In the meantime, there are more school sponsored activities, but most people aren't interested in those... -

Sat, June 19, 2004 - 6:36 AMGuess the frosh will have to go back to playing with their slide rules. Oh wait, no one knows what a slide rule is anymore. LOL. Geeze, in my day the TI-55 and the HP-11 was cutting edge.
